Idaho surplus funds and excess proceeds

In Idaho, county treasurers hold excess proceeds from tax deed sales, then send unclaimed money to the State Treasurer. Here's how to find out if you're owed money and claim it, county by county.

Deadlines

In Idaho the county treasurer holds excess proceeds for a short window after its notice (60 days under Idaho Code 31-808). After that the money goes to the Idaho State Treasurer's unclaimed property program, where you can still claim it free.

Idaho Code 14-5-1301 voids paid finder agreements for money held by the State until 24 months after it reaches the State. In that period we will only point you to the free claim.

You can file this claim yourself, free. If you would rather hand it off, Rightful Recovery prepares the forms, arranges the notary and follows up with the office until it pays you. Nothing up front, and our fee is 10% only if money is recovered. We are a private company, not a government office.
