Lemhi County tax deed sale excess proceeds

Lemhi County, Idaho (Salmon) holds tax deed sales; any excess over taxes and costs is held for the former owner.

How to claim Lemhi County surplus funds yourself (free)

  1. Check the County's tax sale notice for your parcel.
  2. After the sale, ask the County Clerk or Treasurer (contacts on lemhicountyidaho.org) whether excess proceeds are held for you.
  3. Submit the County's claim with ID and supporting documents inside the window.

Deadline

In Idaho the county treasurer holds excess proceeds for a short window after its notice (60 days under Idaho Code 31-808). After that the money goes to the Idaho State Treasurer's unclaimed property program, where you can still claim it free.

Good to know

Idaho Code 14-5-1301 voids paid finder agreements for money held by the State until 24 months after it reaches the State. In that period we will only point you to the free claim.
